For a while, my younger sister's Volvo was actually the best sedan or wagon in the family for snow - locking diff, good weight distribution. Contrasted interestingly with the Buick: FWD, but wallowy and heavy...
Sometimes it's nice to be able to control front/rear wheel speeds semi-separately and stay straight under engine braking in the snow or produce controlled oversteer - but don't tell Saab that.
